Flood Watch Number: 21

FLOOD RISK CONTINUES FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTH WEST PARTS OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

A rain band across southern and western parts of the Northern Territory is expected to weaken during Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers and storms will continue over much of the Territory. A trough lies across central districts, and will move north over the Top End later in the week.

Catchments in the Flood Watch area are relatively wet and responsive to rainfall, and river levels remain elevated in parts of the Flood Watch area.

Rainfall totals of 10 to 65 mm were recorded across the Flood Watch area since 9:00 am Monday following heavy falls during the weekend.

Rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are forecast over the next few days. Widespread daily falls of 15 to 30 mm with isolated heavier falls up to 40 to 60 mm are possible across the Flood Watch area during Tuesday and Wednesday.

The recent observed rainfall is causing flooding impacts, and with further rainfall forecast, impacts will continue over the coming days. Flood impacts may include road closures, including primary and secondary highways, and isolation of communities and homesteads. Check road conditions before travelling.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Upper Victoria River
Victoria River below Kalkarindji
Tanami Desert
Barkly
Western Desert
East Kimberley Rivers
Sturt Creek District

Flooding is no longer expected in Central Desert, MacDonnell Ranges.
