Watch and Act - Kian Road fire (Nambucca LGA)

A bush fire is burning to the south west of Bowraville. The fire is more than 17,146 hectares in size and is out of control.

Current Situation

The fire is currently threatening properties a round Congarinni.

The fire is burning in an easterly direction towards Warrell Creek.

Firefighters continue working to protect properties in the area.

A number of local roads may be closed or blocked due to falling trees.

South Arm Road is closed to the west, from the Williams Hill Road intersection.

Advice

If you are in the area of Congarinni and Warrell Creek Road and your plan is to leave, or you are not prepared, leave now towards Macksville.

If you are in the area of Bowraville, Congarinni North, Argents Hill, Buckra Bendinni, South Arm and McHughs Creek Valleys, watch out for smoke and embers.

Put your bush fire survival plan into action. If you don't have a survival plan, know what you will do if the fire threatens.

Evacuation Centres and School Closures

- Evacuation centres open today Monday 11 November are: Club Taree; Wauchope High School (Wauchope Showground for animals); Laurieton United Services Club; Kempsey Showground; Kempsey Macleay RSL Club; Anglican Church Bowraville; Grafton Community Centre; Coraki Bowling Club; Nimbin Showground; Mullumbimby Ex Services Club; Cavanbah Centre Byron Bay. The Evacuation centre at the Old Bar Club is closed. - People are encouraged to register online at Register Find Reunite before attending evacuation centres. - For a list of school closures on Monday 10 November visit https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/school-safety.

Worsening weather conditions on Tuesday 12 November 2019 will see areas across the state with severe, extreme and catastrophic fire danger. These are very dangerous conditions. Visit the NSW RFS website for more details.
