Watch and Act - Long Gully Rd, Drake (Tenterfield LGA)

A bush fire is burning in the Long Gully Road, Drake area. The fire has burnt more than 22,000 hectares and is out of control.

Current Situation

The fire is burning in remote terrain south of Drake and Tabulum, in the Girard State Forest.

The fire has crossed Plains Station Road and is burning on the Western side of the Clarence River.

Firefighters are working to hold the fire to the west of the Clarence River. Crews are also working with local residents to protect properties.

Strong winds are expected to continue through the day before easing overnight. It is expected strong winds will return tomorrow.

Fallen trees and fire may impact local roads.


If you are in the area of Ewingar, Tilbaroo and areas on the western side of the Clarence River, put your bush fire survival plan into action now.

Well prepared and actively defended properties can offer protection.

Areas around Drake and on the eastern side of the Clarence River should monitor conditions closely. Ensure you know what you will do if the fire impacts on your property.

If you live in the area but are away from your home, it may not be safe to return to your property.

A community meeting is scheduled for 1400hrs today at Drake Community Hall, Tabulam Street in Drake.

An Evacuation Centre at Tenterfield Showgrounds, 62 Miles St, Tenterfield is open today from 07:00hrs to 23:00hrs.
