VIGOROUS WINDS IN THE SOUTH EAST CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY NIGHT.

A strong cold front has moved through the state today, bringing vigorous westerly winds in its wake.

Damaging Wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h are possible Thursday afternoon and into the evening about the Illawarra, eastern parts of the Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains, and the southern coastal ranges.

These winds are expected to ease early Friday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Braidwood, Katoomba and Goulburn.

- Wind gust of 93 km/h at Port Kembla at 4:30pm

- Wind gust of 89 km/h at Nowra at around 2:30pm

- Wind gust of 89 km/h at Moss Vale at around 4:00pm

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
