Weather Situation:
An intense low pressure centre and trough will develop off the east coast of Tasmania during Thursday and slowly move away on Friday.

DAMAGING SOUTH TO SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h, are expected to develop about east and south Tasmanian coasts from late Thursday afternoon.

Coasts south of Bicheno are expected to be impacted on Thursday. However, damaging winds are likely to extend across the eastern half of Tasmania, King Island and parts of the west coast from early Friday.

Locations which may be affected include Swansea, Orford, Hobart, Geeveston, Dover and Dodges Ferry.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check for further advice.
