Bushfire EMERGENCY WARNING for the communities of BUNGARUN, BIRDWOOD RISE and SAVANNAH HEIGHTS in SHIRE OF DERBY-WEST KIMBERLEY

ALERT LEVEL:

A bushfire EMERGENCY WARNING has been issued for people the communities of BUNGARUN, BIRDWOOD RISE and SAVANNAH HEIGHTS in SHIRE OF DERBY-WEST KIMBERLEY.

You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes.

The alert level for this fire has been upgraded as local communities are now at threat.

Homes in the three communities are under threat by fire now.

The fire started near the intersection of DERBY-GIBB RIVER RD and BUNGARUN RD in DERBY.

WHAT TO DO:

You can leave via Bungarun Road to the Gibb River Road.

If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place.

Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute is deadly.

It is not safe to stay and actively defend, your best chance for survival is to leave now.

If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home and actively defend it.

If you are not at home, it is too dangerous now to return.

Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

The bushfire is moving in a south easterly direction.

It is unpredictable.

SAFEST ROUTE:
You can leave south via Bungarun Road towards the Gibb River Road..

ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS:

Some roads may be closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

Firefighters are actively fighting the fire.

EXTRA INFORMATION:

The fire was reported at 02:44 PM on 23 October 2019.

Currently there has been 1500 hectares burnt.
