Flood Watch Number: 5

FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE BONAPARTE, NORTH WEST COASTAL AND CARPENTARIA COASTAL RIVERS

A monsoon trough extends from a weak tropical low 30U over Kimberley, to tropical low 31U in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Showers and thunderstorms will be more frequent about the monsoon trough, with some isolated heavy falls possible in the Flood Watch area. Heavy falls associated with 31U will be confined to the coastal areas near the southern Top End in the next few days, before it moves westwards later in the week, but there is high uncertainty in timing and amount of rainfall.

Catchments in the Flood Watch area are wet from recent rainfall.

Rainfall may cause significant water level rises in rivers and creeks as well as prolonged overland flooding and ponding. Roads may become impassable. Some communities and homesteads may become isolated. Check road conditions before travelling.

Catchments likely to be affected include:
East Kimberley Rivers

Victoria River below Kalkarindji

Fitzmaurice River

Moyle River

Katherine River

Daly River above Douglas River

Lower Daly River

Finniss River

Walker River

Waterhouse River

Roper River

Towns River

Limmen Bight River

Rosie River

McArthur River

Flood warning is current for the following catchment: Upper Victoria
