For people in parts of Simpson and Lasseter districts.

Issued at 4:52 pm Saturday, 23 December 2023.

Severe thunderstorms developing over the far southwest Northern Territory.

Weather Situation:
A trough of low pressure extends from northwest Western Australia through northwest South Australia and combines with a hot and unstable air mass to produce severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts moving across the border into the Lasseter and southwest Simpson districts. A southerly surge associated with the trough is also enhancing thunderstorm activity. Thunderstorms complexes are moving generally towards the northeast.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Yulara, Kaltukatjara, Kulgera, Curtin Springs, Watarrka and Uluru.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
