Issued at 12:22 pm EST on Sunday 2 February 2025

Flood Watch Number: 7

MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING IS CURRENT ACROSS MULTIPLE CATCHMENTS IN THE NORTH TROPICAL AND CENTRAL COAST

FURTHER MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE BURDEKIN AND PROSERPINE CATCHMENTS FROM SUNDAY

A tropical low near the northeast tropical coast is combining with a ridge to enhance onshore winds and drive deep moisture and enhanced rainfall over the North Tropical Coast, Central Coast and Burdekin catchments.

Catchments across the Flood Watch area are wet after recent rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast to continue across the Flood Watch area for the next couple of days.

A Severe Weather Warning is also current for parts of the North Tropical Coast, Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin.

River level rises and flooding is occurring across large parts of the Flood Watch area. Elevated tides are also occurring which may enhance flooding in coastal parts of the Flood Watch area.

Further isolation of communities and disruption to transport routes is possible over the next few days.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam

Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam

Don and Proserpine Rivers(Flood Warning current for the Don River)

Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Mulgrave and Russell Rivers, Johnstone River, Tully and Murray Rivers, Herbert River, Ross, Bohle, and Black Rivers, Haughton River, Don River, Pioneer River, and Burdekin River.
