Flood Watch Number: 1

RELATIVELY WIDESPREAD MINOR FLOODING LIKELY FROM TUESDAY, WITH MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE

A slow-moving trough is forecast to become established within a very moist tropical airmass over southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales into early next week. Enhanced widespread heavy shower and thunderstorm activity is expected within the vicinity of the trough from Sunday through to Tuesday, with locally heavy rainfall likely.

Inland catchments within the Flood Watch area are relatively dry, whereas the coastal catchments are generally wetter, especially those in southeast Queensland.

Locally moderate to heavy rainfall is likely with showers and thunderstorms over the next few days. Whilst widespread heavy rainfall is not expected each day at this stage, some areas may receive heavy rainfall over consecutive days which will increase the flood risk.

Widespread minor flooding is likely across the Flood Watch area from Tuesday, with locally moderate to major flooding possible in the areas of heaviest rainfall.

Flooding and flood warnings are already occurring in several catchments within the Flood Watch, as noted against the list of catchments below.

Localised flooding, including flash flooding, is likely. Flooding may result in disruption to transport routes and isolation of some communities.
