Slow moving severe storms have developed over the coastal parts of
Queensland, including Brisbane.
Weather Situation: A humid and unstable airmass has caused
isolated severe thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. Storms are
slowly moving to the east and southeast. Further isolated severe
thunderstorm development is possible over the remainder of the
southeast throughout the afternoon.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may
lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several
hours. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast,
Brisbane, Bundaberg, Proserpine, Hamilton Island and
Cleveland.
81.8 mm was recorded at Ayr Research Station in the 60 minutes to
12:45 pm.
70.0 mm was recorded at Rosalie in the 60 minutes to 12:53
pm.
77.0 mm was recorded at Holland Park West in the 30 minutes to
12:37 pm.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger
asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes
out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be
identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are
dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has
passed.
