Initial Flood Watch for parts of North-West and Central South Australia

Issued at 11:55 am ACDT on Friday 13 March 2026
Flood Watch Number: 1

FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE NORTH-WEST AND CENTRAL CATCHMENTS FROM MONDAY

A trough of low pressure is forecast to deepen over south west Northern
Territory during Sunday, then extend into South Australia on Monday. Fed by
humid tropical winds, this system is expected to generate widespread rainfall,
which may be heavy in parts of North West and Central catchments from Monday.

Catchments in the Flood Watch area are moderately wet and are likely to respond
quickly to this rainfall.

Forecast rainfall may cause river and creek level rises, prolonged overland
flooding, and ponding from Monday onwards. Roads access may be affected, and
some communities and homesteads my become isolated. Check road conditions
before travelling.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Lake Eyre

Finke River and Stephenson Creek

Eastern Great Victoria Desert

Warburton District Rivers

Flood Warnings are current for the following catchment(s): Warburton and Cooper
