DESTRUCTIVE WINDS OCCURRING NEAR WOOMERA

Weather Situation: A humid and very unstable airmass is combining with a surface trough to lead to the development of severe thunderstorms across the west and central parts of SA this afternoon, potentially continuing into the evening.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the North West Pastoral district. Locations which may be affected include Woomera.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Flinders, North West Pastoral, West Coast and Mid North districts. Locations which may be affected include Whyalla, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Hawker, Woomera and Tarcoola.

A 153KM/H WIND GUST WAS RECORDED AT WOOMERA AT 5:24PM

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Secure or put away loose items around your property.
* Move cars under cover or away from trees.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.
