Damaging winds continue in parts of Tasmania today.

Weather Situation: Vigorous westerly winds increase over exposed and elevated parts of the state today. Winds begin to contract towards southern parts of the state from around midnight tonight before easing by sunrise Friday.

For the west coast and adjacent southern and central parts of the state: DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS of 60 to 70 km/h with gusts around 100 km/h are likely throughout the region today, with gusts around 120km/h possible for elevated locations. DAMAGING WINDS are expected to ease along the west coast, north of and including Strahan, later this afternoon.

For the northeast of the state: DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS of 55 to 65 km/h are forecast to develop about the coast during the afternoon with isolated wind gusts reaching 100 km/h also possible. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 100 km/h are also likely about elevated areas in the northeast this afternoon and early evening.

DAMAGING WINDS are expected to contract to the south and southwest of the state by late this evening and eventually ease during Friday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Strahan, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Geeveston, Dover and Bridport.

Severe weather is no longer occurring in the King Island and Furneaux Islands districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

109 km/h wind gust recorded at Hartz Mountain at 2:15am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
