Damaging winds expected throughout much of the state today.

Weather Situation: A strong cold front is forecast to cross the state today, reaching the west coast during the afternoon and moving into the Tasman Sea by the late evening. Strong to damaging northwesterly winds will develop this morning ahead of the front, with winds easing and tending westerly in its wake.

DAMAGING WIND GUSTS in excess of 100 km/h are developing over elevated terrain in the south of Tasmania and are likely to extend to the rest of the warning area, including Hobart, by the early afternoon.

DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h are likely over elevated terrain and the west coast during these times.

Winds are expected to ease from the west from this evening, clearing the east of the state by early Monday morning.

Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, Strahan, New Norfolk, Hobart, Oatlands, Bicheno, Orford and Bothwell.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
