Watch and Act - Grass Fire - Prepare to Evacuate
Issued Today at 2:44 PM.
This Watch and Act message is being issued for Cross Roads, Lake
Goldsmith, Lake Wongan, Mena Park, Mount Emu, Skipton, Stockyard
Hill, Stoneleigh.
It is strongly recommended that you Prepare to Evacuate.
There is a grassfire at Yalla-Y-Poora Rd, Streatham that is not
yet under control.
The fire is expected to impact Skipton at 4:30pm.
The grassfire is travelling from Carranballac in a easterly
direction towards Skipton.
A wind change is expected anytime from now, which will cause the
fire to change directions towards Crossroads, Stoneleigh, Lake
Goldsmith and nearby communities. Conditions can become very
dangerous and unpredictable.
If you choose to stay, emergency services may not be able to help
you.
Prepare to evacuate immediately and leave as soon as you are
ready.
How to evacuate:
You should pack:
Cash
Clothing for three days
Medicine for three days
Phone and chargers
Toiletries
Important documents
Mementos and photos
Pets essentials, including leash and carriers.
If possible, make sure your neighbours are aware of the situation
and check if they need help.
When you are ready, you should leave immediately. Don't wait to be
told when to leave.
Where to go:
You can go to friends or family in a safer location.
Relief Centre is open at Beaufort Community Bank Complex, 39 Park
Road, Beaufort.
The safest evacuation route is: Eurambeen-Streatham Road,
Beaufort-Carranballac Road, Skipton Road travelling North to
Beaufort.
Impacts in your area:
Grassfires can start and spread quickly, and are extremely
dangerous.
Check the VicTraffic website or call 13 11 70 for road
closures.
