For people in parts of Kimberley district.

Issued at 10:37 am Friday, 18 April 2025.

Heavy rainfall risk to persist despite Tropical Cyclone Errol weakening today.

Weather Situation: Tropical Cyclone Errol is expected to make landfall near Kuri Bay this afternoon, then weaken below Tropical Cyclone strength soon after. While winds are expected to weaken below damaging thresholds, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the Kimberley for the remainder of Friday and into Saturday morning as the system moves inland.

Moderate to HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Kimberley west of Fitzroy Crossing from early Saturday morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals of 50 to 80 mm are expected, with isolated falls in excess of 100 mm possible near the low centre.

Rainfall is expected to ease below warning thresholds by Saturday morning.

A separate Tropical Cyclone Advice is current for coastal parts of the Kimberley between Kuri Bay and Broome. See http://www.bom.gov.au/cyclone/index.shtml for more information.

Once the system is no longer being analysed as a Tropical Cyclone and the associated Tropical Cyclone Warning is cancelled, this Severe Weather Warning may be extended further west to cover the ongoing risk of heavy rainfall over coastal parts of the Kimberley.

Locations which may be affected include Mount Barnett.
