Heavy rainfall has developed about Tropical Low 18U near the
western Cape York Peninsula.
Weather Situation: Tropical Low 18U lies in the central western
Cape York Peninsula. Persistent, heavy showers and thunderstorms to
the south of this system are bringing areas of heavy
rainfall.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for
areas between Pormpuraaw and Karumba. Six-hourly rainfall totals
between 80 and 150 mm are likely, with isolated totals exceeding
200 mm possible.
Conditions are expected to continue during Saturday with Tropical
Low 18U slow moving, before easing during Saturday evening. There
is high uncertainty around the movement of the tropical low, so the
situation will remain closely monitored.

Locations which may be affected include Kowanyama and Delta Downs
Station.
159.0 mm of rainfall was recorded at Kowanyama airport in the 6
hours to 7:44 am.
305.2 mm of rainfall was recorded at Kowanyama airport in the 24
hours to 8:34 am.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger
asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes
out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be
identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are
dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has
passed.
