For people in parts of Southeast Coast Forecast District.

Issued at 7:03 am Monday, 1 January 2024.

Heavy to LOCALLY INTENSE rainfall about parts of the southeast during Monday and Tuesday.

Weather Situation: A humid easterly airflow and coastal trough near the southeast Queensland coast, together with an upper-level trough, is expected to continue producing periods of heavy shower and thunderstorm activity in the warning area.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for the southern parts of the Southeast Coast during today and into Tuesday. Three to six-hourly rainfall totals between 100 and 180 mm are possible, with isolated 24-hourly totals exceeding 250 mm possible, more likely about the ranges. Localised INTENSE RAINFALL leading to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is possible during this period with six-hourly rainfall totals between 150 and 250 mm possible.

The heaviest rainfall will be associated with shower and thunderstorm activity, which is likely to be hit-and-miss in nature across the warning area. There is significant uncertainty in the movement and timing of features, but at this stage the heavy rainfall risk is expected to persist into Tuesday, and may extend further north.

A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if very dangerous thunderstorms with intense rainfall are detected.

A Flood Watch is current for areas in southeast Queensland, and flood warnings may issued as required. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings/
Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Logan City, Beenleigh, Mount Tamborine and Springbrook.
