Severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall continue around
Gympie.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 9:00 pm, severe
thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to
flash flooding were detected near Pomona. These thunderstorms are
slow moving. They are forecast to affect the area southeast of
Gympie and the area northwest of Gympie by 9:30 pm and Kin Kin and
the area north of Gympie by 10:00 pm.
66.0 mm was recorded in 1 hour to 8:15pm at Sippy Downs.
61.0 mm was recorded in 1 hour to 5:50 pm at Wacol.
48.0 mm was recorded in 30 minutes to 5:18 pm at Moggill.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger
asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes
out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be
identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are
dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has
passed.
