GIANT HAIL OCCURRING NORTH OF IPSWICH

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 11:10 pm, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce giant hailstones and damaging winds was detected near Mount Nebo and Highvale. This thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast. It is forecast to affect Samford by 11:25 pm and Strathpine, Albany Creek and Lake Samsonvale by 11:40 pm.

Another severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Wacol and Archerfield. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect Brisbane CBD, Beenleigh and Logan Central by 11:25 pm and Cleveland, Manly and Wynnum by 11:40 pm.

37mm was recorded in 30 minutes at Upper Bracker Creek to 7:04PM

7cm (Giant) hail observed at Flagstone Creek this evening.

10cm (Giant) hail observed in Gatton this evening.

Emergency services advise people to:
* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
* Stay away from windows if there is giant hail.
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
