AVOID THE AREA - CAIGUNA

A Bushfire Watch and Act is in place for people along the Eyre Highway between Caiguna Roadhouse and Balladonia Roadhouse in the SHIRE OF DUNDAS.

There is a possible threat to lives as a fire is burning in the area and conditions are changing.

WHAT TO DO
Locals and travellers need to avoid the area and reassess any planned travel through the area.

If you have remained in the area, stay alert and monitor your surroundings as conditions could change.

Stay indoors if smoke spreads.

Be patient and follow the directions of emergency services personnel and Main Roads signage.

Bushfire behaviour

The bushfire is moving fast in a south easterly direction.

The bushfire has jumped Eyre Highway and there is a lot of smoke in the area.

Road closures and conditions

Eyre Highway between Border Village and Balladonia Roadhouse has been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.

What firefighters are doing

Firefighters are on scene.

Machinery is on its way to assist with the creation of containment lines.

Animal Welfare

Owners or carers of livestock, pets and companion animals should activate their own animal welfare plan. During a bushfire take advice from Local Government Authorities to protect the lives of your animals while keeping yourself safe.

The incident was reported at 07:12 PM on 25 January 2026.

The fire was caused by lightning.
